摘要

We propose a new approach to the evaluation of the wear resistance of the cutting tool materials from the viewpoint of the electronic structure, which is defined by the density of the electronic states, the Fermi energy, the partial charge distribution, and its derivative - the absolute thermoEMF. We obtain an analytic relation for determining the wear resistance in abrasive wearing and compare the theoretical estimates with the experimental data for tungsten carbide.
