Phase shift angle measurements were made on ethylene propylene diene rubber (EPDM), polypropylene (PP), andthermoplastic elastomers (TPVs) using TappingMode~(TM)phase imaging technique by atomic force microscopy (AFM).In this work, the phase shift angle for rubber or elastomer is independent of penetration depth for setpoint ratio (r_(sp)) below0.6, which indicates elastic behavior of the materials. Thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPVs) containing different amount ofcurative show that phase shift angle increases with increasing curative content. Our study shows that phase shift anglemeasurement can be used to evaluate cure state of elastomer phase for model TPVs.
