Focus on addressing environmental issues

The 58th meeting of ISO/TC 45(Rubber and rubber products) was held at Haarlem, the Netherlands, from October 18 to 20, 2010. At the seminar held as part of the meeting, Dr Arup K Chandra, Head Global RM and R&D Apollo Tyres Ltd, presented a paper on International Legislation and Environmental Issues on Rubber Products. He said the major concerns in tyre industries are the usage of nitrosamine (TRGS- 522) & PAH free containing materials in rubber compounds. REACH, Tyre labelling and Tyre odour place greater responsibility on industry to manage the risks that chemical may pose to the health & environment. "The demand is growing fast for environment-friendly tyre. The tyre industry is also switching over to green compounds & manufacturing process," he said.
