Rethinking its stance: RMA believes in tire fuel efficiency rating standard, but not NHTSA scale

WASHINGTON-The Eubber Manufacturers Association finds itself condemning a regulation it lobbied for. The RMA still believes strongly in a federal tire fuel efficiency rating and consumer information program. But in comments submitted Aug. 21 to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the association disagreed with much of what the agency proposed for that standard, from testing methods and rating scales to consumer information, industry costs and regulatory lead-time.
