Shelf Life. Ever since foods have been packaged, their shelf life has been an important characteristic in the development of new packaging. Because of plastics' relatively high permeability, they are not suitable for very long shelf lives. The breakthrough has been achieved with a multilayer barrier laminate that achieves a shelf life comparable to canned goods.
