In 2011, I documented three new, non-native tracheophyte plant species for New Hampshire: Opuntia humifusa (Raf.) Raf., Juncus conglomerates L., and Silphium perfoliatum L. Voucher specimens for all three plant species are in the Hodgdon Herbarium, University of New Hampshire (numbered NHB-275, NHB-467, and NHB-468, respectively).The first, Opuntia humifusa, occurs at the Sands in Seabrook (Figure 1). The Sands is the largest remaining back-dune remnant of a once extensive dune system. Now largely developed, the historical dune system stretched from the mouth of the Merrimack River in Salisbury, Massachusetts, north along the New Hampshire coast into Hampton (Eberhardt and Burdick 2009).
