Hybrid maize seed yield in correlation with distance of mother and father parent components.

Experimental work conducted during 1996 and 1997 at the Agricultural Institute in Osijek showed correlations between some yield components of single cross maize hybrids with the distance between the female and male parents during pollination. The investigations were conducted with three different hybrids derived from female plants which were removed from male plants by 1-3 rows. Year of investigation (A) had significant influence on kernels/row of ears in all hybrids. In all three hybrids higher seeds/ear row was achieved in the second year. Distance between female and male parent (B) had significant influence on seeds/row in all examined hybrids. Seeds/row was negatively correlated with the distance between female and male parents.
