Geochemical investigation of cadmium input in the soil at the Salek Valley area

The article represents a geochemical investigation of Cd in precipitations in the Salek Valley area, Slovenia. The aim was to estimate the atmospheric input of Cd in soil. Cd was determined by the ICP-MS in the water and by the ICP in soil samples. The average Cd concentration in the precipitations in the Salek Valley area in the year 1997 was on the average 0.103 mu g/l. The results indicate an increased concentration of Cd in precipitations. The average value of the air input of Cd in the Salek Valley is up to 1.24 g/ha/year, whereas in the reference areas it comes up to 0.89 g/ha/year. The comparison with the year 1993 indicates that the air input of Cd in 1997 in the Salek Valley was essentially lower what could be attributed to new desulphurisation plant in the Thermal Power Plant Sostanj. To determine Cd pollution of the precipitation, normalization to Fe in soil as reference element was used.
