Strategies for Sustainability: Multinational Mining Companies and Local Communities in Developing Countries

In the last twenty years, a significant number of developing countries which are rich in mineral and other natural resources have designed policies and incentives' in order to attract foreign direct investment for the growth of their economies. The mining industry, among other extractive industries, has become one of the most important activities that can generate high income2, improve the economy, create employment, and promote development in these countries.
