Heidari et al.'s (2012) paper (technical note) describes an experimental-based prediction of the uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) and Brazilian tensile strength (BTS) by the point load strength index (PLSI) for a gypsum rock in Iran. Both the UCS and the BTS are reported to have linear regression relationships with the PLSI (I_s(50)) regardless of air-dried or water-saturated samples. For example, under the air-dried state gypsum rock condition, the regression equation for the UCS prediction by the axial point load test is.
