ROADSIDE PANNING SITESIN ALABAMA/Part I: Bibb, Blount, Chilton, Clarke, Clay, And Cleburne Counties

This is the first in a continuing series of county-by-county maps indicating the locations of suggested panning and screening sites at a number of the more strategic highway/stream crossings where appreciable finds have been reported on upstream watersheds. The idea is that water will eventually carry the minerals and gemstones to these crossings, where the intrepid rock-hound can recover them with pan or screen. Obviously, a highway convenience study of this kind is most advantageous to seniors and others who have come to view those nice, shaded bridge crossings as more attractive than tramping over hill and dale in search of minerals. It has the added advantage of eliminating the need to locate and request permission from landowners. Please remember, when taking advantage of these highway rights of way, to observe the usual safety and environmental regulations. Good luck!
