For environmmental and health effects due to incressing levels of pollution in the atmosphere, it is necessary to develop environmentally sound technologies for the treatment of off-gases, greenhouse gases (CO_2,CH_4,CFC,etc.),and acid gases (SO_x,NO_x,etc.). The purpose of this study is to report the development of an advanced preparation method for higly active macroporous slakedlime, amodified Ca(OH)_2, for the CO_2 capture by making quiclime, CaO. This study is carried out by selected processes, specifically, modified swelling, hydration with deionized water, and controlled dring. The results of X-ray Diffractometry (XRD)analysis indicate that the process product is primarily Ca(OH)_2, with a little CaCO_2. The active macroporous sites of a swelled sample were also analyzed by Scanning Electron Microscopy and X-ray Microanalysis (SEM-DEAX). The results of the modified swelling process indicate that the removal capacity of a swelled slakedlime for CO_2 is about 5 - 6 times higher than the non-swelled material.
