Disclosed are a preparation method and an iodine removal use of a nano cuprous oxide/copper modified carbon-based adsorbent. Polyethylenimine is added into ultra-pure water, and then mixed with copper nitrate and stirred; activated carbon is added and same is placed into an autoclave, the autoclave is sealed and a hydrothermal reaction is carried out at 180oC-220oC for 3-12 h; and the autoclave is naturally cooled to room temperature, and the resulting solid sample is washed with deionized water and dried in a vacuum at conditions of 50oC-80oC to obtain a nano cuprous oxide/copper modified activated carbon. The nano cuprous oxide/copper modified activated carbon is added into a radioactive body of water containing iodine ions, and shows good adsorbability for iodine ions in the body of water: under conditions where the initial concentration is 1-30 mg/L and the dosage of the adsorbent is 1 g/L, the removal effect can reach 90% or more. This method can be used for the emergency treatment of a body of water polluted with radioactive iodine ions, and is an economical and practical method for removing radioactive iodine ions from a body of water.
