Multiscale analysis of rough surfaces using the notion of 3D motifs

The motifs associated to a rough surface are definedas its catchment basins. The non significant ones are eliminatedusing a filling up method. It allows the introduction of amultiscale analysis method able to extract the relevant observationlevels of 3D motifs. The interest of this method is illustrated in thecase of steel and ceramic rough surfaces.
