The worldwide demand for lubricating oils for all industrial processes and for the passenger and heavy goods vehicle sector currently stands at approximately 38.5 million t (Table 1). This figure alone gives an indication of the high level of the quota of waste oil produced from these sectors. Assuming the return quota for waste oils (used oils) of the German figures, roughly 50 % of the products manufactured will become waste oil. This means a production of 19.25 m t waste oil worldwide. This clearly shows that the subject of "waste oil" is to be looked at not only in Germany, but also on a worldwide basis.
