摘要

In the past 10 years, an increase in the use of pars plana vitrectomy in the management of complex retinal diseases has pressed researchers to devise instruments that help surgeons in the difficult work of retina debridement in retinal detachment with vitreoretinal proliferation. Multifunction vitreous surgical Instruments have been developed, including those with optic fiber and diathermy, optic fiber and picks, aspiration cannula and endoilluminator, and optic fiber, picks, diathermy, and irrigation/aspiration cannula in the same probe. Instrument multifunction saves the surgeon time, by avoiding reentering sclerotomies and possibly by operating with both hands without the assistance of a second operator. We describe our experience with optic fiber not only as an endoillumina-tion means but also as an indentation tool.
