Field experiments were conducted in West Bengal, India, during the 2003 and 2004 summer seasons, to study the effect of phosphorus (0, 30 and 60 kg/ha) and sulfur fertilizer applications (0, 20 and 40 kg/ha) on the seed yield, pods per plant, seeds per pod, 1000-seed weight, protein content, total cost, net return and cost:benefit ratio of summer green gram. Green gram yield increased with increasing levels of P and S fertilizers. P at 60 kg P2O5/ha and S at 40 kg/ha gave the highest number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod, 1000-seed weight, seed yield, net return and net return/rupee invested..
