Design fabrication and evaluation of power operated paddy thresher.

The power-operated paddy thresher consisting of frame, circular drum, shaft rod, spikes, wooden bars, pulleys, V-belt, ball bearing, A.C. motor 1 HP (1440 rpm) and nuts and bolts. Investigations were made to design and develop power operated paddy thresher for the rice growers of Jammu and Kashmir, India. The performance of power-operated paddy thresher was compared with traditional paddy threshing. Some 200 bundles of rice at three different moisture levels, viz., M1 (11.6%), M2 (12.14%) and M3 (13.5%) were threshed traditionally and mechanically by power-operated paddy thresher. Different parameters like threshing capacity (kg/h), unthreshed grain percentage, threshing efficiency (%) and cleaning efficiency (%) were studied. The maximum and minimum capacities (400 and 295 kg/h) of thresher were observed at M1 and M3 moisture levels, respectively. When threshing was done by power-operated paddy thresher, the highest unthreshed grain percentage (5.4%) and the lowest threshing efficiency (93.0%) were recorded at M3 moisture level, while the lowest unthreshed grain percentage (3.25%) and highest threshing efficiency (96.75%) were recorded at M1 moisture level. No significant difference was observed in cleaning efficiency at all three moisture levels between traditional and mechanical paddy threshing..
