Effect of planting date and vermicompost on growth and chlorophyll content of dill (Anethum graveolens L.)

In order to study the effects of different planting dates and vermicompost rates on growth and chlorophyll content of dill (Anethum graveolens L.), an experiment was carried out in the fields of College of Agriculture, Islamic Azad University, Shahre-Rey, Iran during 2012 growing season. Four planting dates : 13 and 23 April as well as 3 and 13 May as main plots and five levels of vermicompost : 0, 8, 16, 24 and 32 t/ha as sub-plots were studied in a split plot arranged in a randomized complete blockdesign with four replications. Results showed that planting dates and vermicompost treatments had significant effect on dill growth and development. Seed sowing in early April had positive effect on dill growth as well. Furthermore, increase in vermicompost level led to increase in dill growth and flowering. Generally, seed sowing on 13 or 23 April was found as the best planting dates and application of 32 t/ha vermicompost was recommended for dill production.
