Germany - BfR advises against use of nanosilver in consumer products

The German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) is currendy advising against the use of silver nanoparticles in consumer products until a conclusive risk assessment can be conducted. Silver and silver compounds have been used in cosmetics, textiles and household appliances because they release silver ions that can inhibit the growth of germs. Silver in the form of nanoparticles is increasingly being used in consumer products including the coating on fridges.
