Clarifying requirements for SVHC classification

The German Federal Institutes for Risk Assessment (BfR) and Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA) present the results of a one-day workshop, held in March 2012, to discuss the possible requirements for the classification of a substance as a substance of very high concern (SVHC) because it is of 'equivalent level of concern'. Under the Reach Regulation, SVHCs include substances that are carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic to reproduction (cmr). Also, in accordance with Article 57 (f) of the Reach Regulation, substances with other properties constituting an 'equivalent level of concern' can be considered to be SVHCs under Reach. However, Reach does not provide a definite description of such properties.
