摘要

It is known that organic-inorganic hybrid materials prepared via the sol-gel process have very attractive properties including improved toughness and thermal stability, which may not be found in either the organic or inorganic component alone. In this work, hybrid materials were prepared using a polyurethane/epoxy acrylate matrix with tetraethoxysilane (TEOS), via the sol-gel process, for optical fibre coatings. High temperature performance of optical fibres is limited by the thermal stability of the coating. The effect of the TEOS content on the thermal stability and microstructure of the coatings was studied using thermogravimetric analysis, x-ray diffraction and the surface morphology was examined using atomic force microscopy.
