Boeing and Airbus'rivalry extends to the use of composite materials in their new aircraft.George Marsh reports on the current status of the A380 and B787,as well as other developments in the aerospace world.The biggest,brightest and most captivating aerospace composites show in town is still the fierce rivalry between Airbus and Boeing and the way each is using reinforced plastics to gain competitive edge.While Boeing with its B787(formerly known as the B7E7)mid-size airliner leap-frogs even Airbus'impressive usage levels by making some 50% by weight of the new jet's airframe plastic,Airbus maintains its evolutionary adoption stance with its A380 superjumbo,now being prepared for a maiden flight this April.
