Hitting the Bull's Eye Rather Than Shooting Yourself Between the Eyes

At an editors' panel at a research meeting 1 was asked, "What are the things authors do that drive editors nuts?" That is an interesting and potentially informative question. I listed my major peeves (shared at the end of this editorial) and wondered if things that irritate me are commonly shared perceptions by editors. To find out, I accessed a discussion board used by many editors, the International Academy of Nursing Editors' (MANE) email distribution list. I posted the following:I have been asked to write an editorial column for Research in Nursing & Health. I think a column on what drives us nuts (and possibly a follow-up column on good things authors do) might be very useful. To that end, and to make'my job easier, could you please make nominations for things you see from authors that send you to the medicine cabinet for an Advil?
