Gloom over economy may have silver lining for rac industry: RAC's New Year trade survey reveals some hopes amid gathering gloom

There are no prizes for spotting what put a dampener on trade last year for the refrigeration and air conditioning industry. After a stunning start with unseasonably warm weather across the country during spring, the later cool, wet summer slowed service and replacement work, and put the handbrake on the air conditioning market. More than 40 per cent of those surveyed said that business for last year was worse than for 2006. This is a significant reversal in the trend, which has shown steady growth for the past three years.
