'On average, Europe recycles 26°/o of its plastic waste,' Plastics Europe's resource efficiency director Martin Engelman told this year's Identiplast conference. An 'obvious fact' is that countries with landfill bans typically score high (up to 60%) in terms of energy recovery. 'The four leading nations - Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium - have proved the argument wrong that energy recovery hinders high recycling rates,' he told delegates in Paris. But not everyone was quite so eager to cheer on incineration.
