China brings high-tech to the rails A combination of modern technology and design

The metropolis of Changchun with 7 million inhabitants, is situated in the Northeast of China, around 900 km from Peking and roughly 500 km from the lively East coast. The city itself is one of the most important Chinese industrial centers, a film metropolis as well as a significant railway junction. A good working local transport system is a particularly important factor considering the size of the population which is as high as the total population of the German state of Lower Saxony. The underground line 2 has been in existence since 2007 and now boasts a length of 16 km. Up until now round 120 railway vehicles were deployed on line 2 but in view of growing transport requirements for this dense populated area, this number will have doubled to 240 by the end of 2008.
