LIMEZ III: Deutsche Bahn's new clearance-gauge measuring vehicle

In recent years, the combination of high track occupancy and the noticeably higher speeds of both passenger and freight trains have increased the need for measuring vehicles. One of the parameters needing to be checked is the clearance gauge. This article describes how DB Netz AG is now setting about measuring this parameter on its railway network. The photogrammetric methods that used to be used are too slow for present-day purposed, and the old measuring vehicle, LIMEZ II, has reached the end of its useful service life. So there is now a need to create a new generation.
