The mechanization of catenary assembly and maintenance is making a major contribution to maximizing the availability of the overhead wires needed for electric trains. UIC Leaflet 791 E speaks about ensuring the highest possible availability of overhead contact line installations for electric traction, provided measures that are technically feasible are also economically reasonable. Precisely from the economic viewpoint, there is no alternative today to using the latest technologies available if railways are to ensure that their electric trains stay on the move.
