A 'fit for use' analysis as an approach to assess structural integrity of running gear components

When the structural integrity of running gear components of existing vehicles is assessed in accordance with the latest railway standards, it's sometimes the case that old designs do not meet the latest standards in railway design. If existing vehicles are required to fulfill these newest standards then the fleet owner will often be confronted with very expensive redesign and modification of these components.
