As integral members of the health care team, radiologic technologists need a variety of skills, including the ability to communicate, collaborate, problem solve and think critically.1 Well-designed laboratory exercises are an excellent way for students to build and reinforce these skills. Labs allow students to practice in an environment without actual patients present and focus on technical aspects of the job.2 But how many educators have easy access to anatomically correct, lifelike phantoms that radiography students can use for practice examinations? Often, someone in another part of the hospital is using them when the instructor needs them for clinical exercises or the phantoms may be locked up while the person who holds the key is on vacation. Worse yet, the relatively high cost of these tools may delay their purchase until next year's capital budget.
