Hydro-Quebec offers solution to sludge producers

Montreal, QC-Hydro-Quebec's electrochemical and electrotechnologies laboratory is partnering with Fabgroups Technologies of Montreal to market its new plasma-assisted sludge oxidation (PASO) process. Using kilns developed by Fabgroups, PASO consumes less than 100 kWh of electricity per wet tonne of sludge, and reduces waste volume by 95 percent.The Quebec market for PASO is estimated at 2 million tonnes a year for pulp and paper, 1.9 million tonnes for pig manure, and over 650,000 tonnes for municipal waste water.
