EU to lift Canadian poultry ban: As of October 1, EU imports of Canadian poultry will be allowed to resume. The ban was imposed in March following an outbreak of avian influenza in British Colombia. The decision to drop the ban was taken at a recent meeting of the Standing Committee on the Food Chain. Newcastle disease vaccinations in Denmark: A vaccination programme against Newcastle disease is due to commence in Denmark on October 15. The agriculture ministry has given the go-ahead for obligatory vaccination of 6 million hens. Chinese livestock exports to Middle East resume: According to Chinese authorities, 43 000 sheep and 1 700 cows were shipped to Jordan on September 21. This is the first time China has exported livestock to the Middle East ineight years following a suspension in 1996 due to "trade issues". Russia bans Chinese, Brazilian meat: Russia has temporarily banned meat imports from China and Brazil as of September 17 and 20 respectively. The move comes amid fears of foot-and-mouth-disease.
