Vancouver, BC -- The Consumers' Association of Canada has launched a class-action lawsuit against the BC beverage industry, retailers and Encorp Pacific, which manages the province's beverage container stewardship program. The Consumers' Association argues that the beverage industry has improperly used revenue from unredeemed deposits to fund its own operations. It further claims that a recycling fee of slightly more than four cents on each container sold, imposed by Encorp, is illegal. It is asking that 70 million dollars in unredeemed deposits, and 60 million dollars in recycling fees, be returned to consumers.
