Flowering and seed production in different genotypes of Stylosanthes species.

This study was conducted in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, India during 2002-2003 using genotypes from Stylosanthes hamata, S. scabra, S. seabrana and S. viscosa. Data revealed that maximum seed yield was evident in S. seabrana while minimum yield was recorded in S. hamata diploids. Seed test weight ranged from 2.69-3.55 g. No definite trend was observed in the seed test weight among the genotypes of S. hamata, S. scabra and S. seabrana. Results also revealed that there is a large variability on the seed yield among the genotypes if Stylosanthes. The long duration and variations in the flowering behaviour of different genotypes of all the four species exhibited the non-synchronized nature of flowering.
