The demand for aluminum extrusions is growing steadily, especially for the automotive and construction industry, furthering the need for better quality dies to extrude large production volumes with minimum wear and with good finishes. Aluminum extruded profiles are prone to many surface defects. Die lines and defects are often caused by impurities in the aluminum billets. Although many large smelters have significantly improved their processes to provide high quality aluminum billet for extrusions, the quality of dies is still crucial to further improve surface quality. With profiles becoming more intricate and extruders often having hundreds of different die designs, using a predictable method of polishing pays dividends.
