Alcoa Spanish Fork, Utah--Industry Showcase 2001

Industry leaders and government officials joined national laboratory scientists and academics at the fourth Department of Energy sponsored Industry Showcase of emerging technologies in Salt Lake City, Utah, on August 27-29, 2001. Cosponsors included Chevron, Flying J, Kennecott, Magcorp, Silver Eagle, and the University of Utah in addition to Alcoa's Spanish Fork extrusion plant. It was the first time the showcase was a statewide, multi-industry exposition of developments that addressed energy efficiency, environmental responsibility, and global competitiveness through programs sponsored or supported by the DOE's Office of Industrial Technologies (OIT).Utah Governor Michael Leavitt and Senator Orrin Hatch praised the objectives and performance of OIT, acknowledging its vital role in support of state and national interests. Senator Hatch emphasized the importance of conservation, energy efficiency, and increasing supply in addressing national energy priorities. Denise Swink, deputy assistant secretary of the DOE, spoke of future cooperation for progress in energy conservation and signed, with Governor Leavitt, a Memorandum of Understanding for future collaboration among the DOE, Utah, and its industrial partners.
