YAMAJU KOI FARM (shigezo)

First in 1904 were Doitsu-goi imported to Japan probably from Germany or Austria as they were called "doitsu" in Japanese instead of "deutsch" in German. Shusui is rather unique in the Nishikigoi history in that it was created in Tokyo. It is said that the Shusui as a new nishikigoi variety was established finally in 1912 by Kichigoro Akiyama, a lecturer of the Tokyo Fisheries College, by crossbreeding between a Doitsu-goi and an Asagi (Asagi Sanshoku). Excellent specimens of the Shusui such as you see today apparently began to appear from around 1928.
