After more than a year of no action in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, a permit application has been submitted by Southwestern Energy Production to develop a well pad there

If approved, the company will build the pad on five acres in Benton Township, which is a mile south of Susquehanna County. According to the state Department of Environmental Protection, the application is one of six the Texas-based driller submitted in October and November for well pads in northwest Lackawanna, southern Susquehanna and Bradford counties. All of the proposed well pads include the notation "1H-6H" in their site names -- an indication that the company eventually plans to drill six horizontal wells on each pad. A state DEP official said the permits are under review.
