Indian tree seeds potential feedstock for biodiesel

According to researchers in India, seeds from mauha (Madhuca indica) and sal (Shorea robusta) trees could be a valuable untapped source of oil for biodiesel production. The seeds are currently left on the forest floor in large quantities as waste. However, the kernel of the mahua seed comprises around 50% oil, ofwhich up to 37% can be easily extracted. Sal tree seed kernels can supply up to 20% of their weight in oil.
