Following a two-year investigation by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), infant formula manufacturer Mead Johnson Nutrition Company has agreed to pay US$ 12 million in penalties for violating the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, without admission of guilt. According to the SEC, payments were made to Chinese health professionals to promote the company's products or to refer patients to Mead Johnson for marketing purposes. In addition, company employees offered inappropriate payments and financial guidance to third-party distributors.
