Idon't know art history, but I do clearly recall that, for much of the 20th Century art m gardens consisted of 1) gazing balls, 2) pink flamingoes, and 3) cherubs with poor bladder control. Then, around the time gardening rules changed so that we wereno longer disgraced if we grew orange flowers next to red ones, the rules of garden art relaxed too. Books urged us to explore Found object Art and Garden Junk and Folk Yard Art. Gnomes became chic. Gardeners with more creativity than nomey could ignorethe disdain of snobs with more money than taste.
