Shipping rates climb, but challenges remain

Benchmark Mideast Gulf to Japan very large gas carrier (VLGC) rates rose above $30/t in April for the first time in over a year. The improvement comes as traders try to take advantage of strong Asian LPG prices by shipping long-haul cargoes from west Africa, the US Gulf and northwest Europe to the region.
