In 1995, NKK was awarded for the "Stiffening Girder Construction, No.6 Project of the Kurushima Kaikvo Bridge" and completed it in 1998. This bridge constitutes a part of the world's first triple suspension bridges and is called the No.3 Kurushima Kaikvo Bridge with a center span of 1030m, the third longest span in Japan and the longest among Japanese suspension bridges with a box-section stiffening girder. The bridge is regarded as a pilot-type for future long span suspension bridges while the Akashi Kaikvo Bridge, completed in April 1998 near Kobe, is the collection of all the efforts done in conventional truss stiffening girder suspension bridges. The following report will discuss the features, as well as the summary of design and construction and installation of the stiffening girders.
