In 1995, NKK was awarded the stiffening girder construction project for Kurushima Bridges (Project No.6) and completed it in 1998. The bridge constitutes a part of the world's first suspension bridge triplet and is called No.3 Kurushima KaikyoBridge with a center span 1030m which is the third longest span in Japan and the longest among Japanese suspension bridges with box- section stiffening girder. The bridge is regarded as a plot-type for future long span suspension bridges while the AkashiKaikyo Bridge, completed in April 1998 near Kobe, is the collection of all the efforts done in conventional truss stiffening girder suspension bridges. Following this report, we give a summarized description of the design, manufacture, and construction as the characteristics of it.
