Norway's Yara International and the Qatar Fertilizer Company (Qafco) have signed an agreement with the Sahara Forest Project AS to build a $5.3 million pilot plant in Qatar to produce energy, food and fresh water from sunlight and sea water. The agreement, signed by Qafco CEO Khalifa A. Al-Sowaidi, Yara CEO J0rgen Ole Haslestad and Joakim Hauge, CEO of The Sahara Forest Project AS, envisages that the pilot plant will be operational by December 2012.
