Supply chain event management (SCEM) collects real-time data from multiple sources across the supply chain. The software converts the data into information that gives business managers a clear picture of how their supply chain is performing. If a problem requires immediate attention, the application can launch workflows and issue alerts to relevant parties via e-mail, phone, fax, personal digital assistant, or other device. The introduction of SCEM represents the coming-together of two kinds of functionality: analytics, formerly accomplished by data warehousing; and workflow, accomplished by means of integration tools.
