Manufacturers adhering to old supply-chain rules are putting their businesses in jeopardy by not adapting to new rules that have come about due to the pressure of a globalizing economy, according to a report from the National Association of Manufacturers' Manufacturing Institute (Washington, DC). Small and medium-sized manufacturers (SMM) have a unique opportunity to start growing their companies, but only if they begin to expand sales overseas and transform their internal processes to take advantage of lean management systems, product innovation, and green manufacturing trends.
