A team of scientists, headed by Dr Alison Blackwell, from the Centre for Tropical Veterinary Medicine chose Laggan, in the Scottish Highlands, as one of the areas to test the Midgeater; well protected against the 'Culicodes Impuntatus' or'Highland Midge'. Scotland's economy set to benefit as a result. The scourge of the midge, a seemingly insurmountable problem which for many years has been a major irritation to thousands of people and costs the Scottish economy millions of pounds every year, has been given a major boost. The launch of a new device called the 'Midgeater' will help reduce local midge populations and has the potential to significantly boost Scottish tourism.
