A Scottish university has filed a patent on a new biofuel made from by-products of distilling whisky, and are planning a spin-out company to commercialise the technology. The process - developed at Edinburgh Napier University - results in biobutanol, which gives 30% more output power than ethanol. The fuel was developed as part of research at Napier's Research Centre, which was provided with samples of whisky distilling byproducts from the Glenkinchie Distillery.
